Business Profile

Welcome Epsom and Ewell High School, the academy sponsor within the Bourne Education Trust, and Salesian School, its strategic partner, are two highly successful organisations with a proven track of success and leading school improvement.

About Us The Matthew Arnold Business & Enterprise College is a mixed comprehensive secondary school. It came into being in 1975 by the amalgamation of the former boys’ and girls’ schools opened in 1947. The school offers a high standard of secondary education to pupils between the ages of 11 and 16 in Staines. Pupils come from most primary schools in the Spelthorne area. The school was delighted to be awarded Specialist Status for Business & Enterprise in September 2004. The school became an Academy on 1st September 2012. Mr Nicol joined the school in April 2013.
The Governors admissions process is set out in the prospectus. In September 2012, there were approximately 969 pupils on roll and there are approximately 125 members of teaching and support staff. The number on roll enables us to offer and maintain a broad curriculum and still ensure a high quality of education. We are oversubscribed for Year 7 since 2002 and anticipate this continuing as there is strong parental support for the school despite falling numbers in Year 6 in the area until 2014.

Our Aims We aim to convince every child to achieve more than they first thought possible. Ours is a caring environment where children are happy and work hard. We have developed a code of conduct based on the 5Rs: Responsibility, Resilience, Resourcefulness, Reasoning and Reflection. This allows each member of our community to feel able to succeed while considering those around them. We are proud of the way we promote equality and opportunities for all.

By the time our students leave school they are confident young people who have initiative to seize opportunities throughout life. We encourage students to continue their studies after Year 11 and onto Higher Education. We are equally pleased to support other students who wish to enter employment at 16 and pursue training while at work.
